Last Updated on 10/07/2026

The Livery Companies Skills Council (LCSC) evolved from an initiative in 1993 by the then Lord Mayor to establish a forum within the Livery to promote vocational and educational training and to represent the concerns of the Livery to Government and policy makers.  Our objectives are to serve the Livery by:

  • Support and promote education and training in skills, and career development across the Livery;
  • Maintain awareness of vocational and technical skills developments through contacts with skills policy makers and sector institutions in government, education and industry; act as a conduit between them and the Livery;
  • Strengthen the established links with City & Guilds and benefit from the support they give;
  • Support, promote and protect Heritage Crafts consistent with the evolving UNESCO Living Heritage list;
  • Promote the application of low carbon, sustainable solutions in all the skills and trades across the livery to contribute to the reduction of climate change;
  • Promote and celebrate the achievement of excellence in skills across the Livery, primarily through the annual awards ceremony in the Mansion House;
  • Work with the City of London Corporation on skills initiatives and support their work with young people;
  • Work with Livery Schools Link to promote outreach, skills advice and careers guidance to young people.

Council meets twice a year and currently has 46 member Companies. City & Guilds is also represented as an associate.  LCSC’s affairs are directed by a Management Committee comprising the Chairman and Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and four other members elected/re-elected annually.
